Last Saturday’s entry of 75 mostly Commercial calved heifers and cows saw a super trade for the best on offer with 11 over £2,000. A top of £2,400 was for a Pedigree M E Dal Alliance heifer from R Pike & Son of Gillingham, Dorset purchased by J Gardener of Bude, Cornwall for a client. Geoff Morgan of Tewkesbury travelled 80 miles to offer his two Pedigree heifers, which realised £2,320 for a “Samuelo” daughter from the Devon based “Stokehouse” herd, and he also sold a “Treetop” bred “Laurin” daughter going back to “Portledge” for £2,320. Richard Kallaway’s heifer that was first in the ring on the day realised £2,160. Geoff Jones made his way down from Monmouthshire with a Non-Pedigree heifer that sold to an exceptional £2,100 and regular consigner Alan Witcombe saw three of his seven Non-Pedigree heifers sell for £2,100, £2,050 and £2,000. The “Curscombe” herd of Colin Bishop’s again attracted a lot of interest with a Pedigree heifer at £2,090 and Peter Summerfield travelled down from Oxford with heifers realising to £2,030.

Cows were in extremely short supply and the best sold to a premium of up £1,910 for Ed Vickery of Dorset. Youngstock continued to attract a lot of trade with 2 week old calves to £350 for TE Pocock & Son.

The market achieved a new record for first quality Commercial heifers at £2,050 and even second quality heifers averaged £1,680.
