Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a continued rise in the dairy trade with their second dairy dispersal sale in a week at Sedgemoor Auction Centre exceeding all expectations.

The commercial NMR herd of dry and off lying autumn/ winter block calving cows from Carwen Farm Partnership of Looe, Cornwall met a strong consistent demand with dry cows coming to their second lactation and due in June selling for 1650gns as did those coming to their third lactation in August. A further seven cows due from June to November sold at 1600gns.

The incalf heifer trade continued to rise with heifers by “Prismagen King George” and incalf to the farms homebred Holstein bulls selling to 1550gns with others by “Inspired Billion” at 1520gns.

Both Cornish and Devon purchased combined with those from Somerset, Wiltshire and a strong Welsh contingent produced the following excellent averages, especially considering that there were no fresh milkers on the day:

148Dairy Cows£1256
  16Unwarranted Cows£628
  51Incalf Heifers£1352.45
