The three way cross breeding policy of Swedish / Norwegian Red x Brown Swiss x Holstein Friesian of the last 15 years followed by DB Dunford & Sons of Eastleigh Hampshire produced one of the fastest trades of the year when dispersed through the ring at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

The youngstock portion of the herd was dispersed in the spring together with this year’s incalf heifers leaving the milking herd of 207 2nd to 9th lactation cows to go under the hammer.  Autumn block calving the strong fresh milk demand continued for these commercial straw yard cows topping at £2100 x 4 for October calved 3rd lactation cows by Straussdale G Electrify and 3 x 2nd lactation granddaughters of Elan.  The longevity of the breeding was evident in the cows sold with 4th lactation cows topping at 1900gns, 5th lactation cows at 1720gns and 9th lactation cows at 1420gns.

A strong contingent of buyers both in the ring and on Marteye produced 44 successful purchasers from across the south west to Leighton Buzzard, Sussex and Wales.
