Cracker of a Trade With Milk to £4095 & 54 over £2000

The last sale of the year at Sedgemoor Auction Centre is the annual Christmas Cracker Show. Judge Ceri Jenkins made her choices from an excellent entry of fresh milk and youngstock and the milk trade of the year followed topping at £4095 for the VG88 3 year old 2nd calver ‘Dyrfal Adrienne’ off the Richaven Adrenaline line consigned by Sophie Morgan. The show champion was from the continued Dinnaton dispersal for Derek & Jeremy Dennis whose 2nd calver ‘Dinnaton Galaxy Crimea Angela’ sold for £3360, also at £3360 was Randolph and Brian Miller’s ‘Moorshard Darlingo Amanda’ a VG85 2nd calver with 10 straight Ex dams behind one of Moorshard best families.
The Reserve Show Champion was the 2nd place cow from the Worcester based Shanael Farms Ltd consignment being another 2nd calver from the Leona family by Totem who sold to 2700gns.
No less than 54 milkers out of the 76 forward sold for in excess of £2000. Calved heifers sold to 2550gns for Dimond Farming Ltd.’s ‘Dorset Pepper Fairmaid’ at 2500gns was ‘Dinnaton Modbury Dewars Babette’ and ‘Moorshard King Doc Amanda’ others at 2400gns and over from Rookhaye Estate x2, Shanael Farms Ltd x2, DC Dennis & Sons Ltd x2, E Gay & Sons and Dimond Farming Ltd. Heifers from FH Chave & Sons Peacehay herd 2350gns x2.
Four Holstein bulls entered sold to 2000gns for NA Kay’s red and white ‘Opencountry Rubel Redford ET’ from the Shottle Emma family.
Only three incalf heifers entered sold to 1420gns for LJ ML & GJ Williams Stbridesvalley’s dispersal. With 13 months old maiden heifers at 1000gns ‘Shanael Imagine Ricki’ and 900gns ‘Shanael Helix Teller’. Yearling heifers from Hanford Farms sold to 720gns for ‘Hanford Galahad Betsy’.
The day started with heifer calves from the Shanael herd selling to 550gns for ‘Shanael Zarek Melody’ and 520gns for the Spottie by Darwin.
