Commercial Dispersal Cows to £2499 at Sedgemoor

May 2022

The recent good trade for milk cows continued at the Dispersal of PJ & MJ Gent’s commercial 7,000kgs herd which included a number of Ayrshire crosses. Not having the facilities for a sale on their Badminton farm the decision was made in conjunction with Gwilym Richards Auctioneers to utilise the purpose built facilities at Sedgemoor. This decision was rewarded with an excellent trade for the milking herd which produced October 2nd calvers by Peak Altafirebird at 2380gns and 2350gns, a July calved heifer due again in the summer at 2350gns, another Altafirebird fresh April 2nd calver 2250gns others to 2180gns, 2100gns & 2050gns x 2, 2020gns & 2000gns x 2.

The trade carried throughout the sale with all 141 cows presented including faults selling to average an impressive £1503.

Incalf heifers sold to 1400gns x 3 for daughters of Aintree Penrod and Inch Gain due July / August to the Angus.  Others to 1380gns x 2.  The recent selective youngstock trade continued with bulling heifers to 700gns and others looking to be good value on the day.  The heifer calf trade was significantly brighter with Swedish Red and Ayrshire Cross calves selling to 300gns x 5.

As well as good local support buyers travelled from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Usk with others from Reading and Staffordshire making use of Marteye to secure their purchases and contribute to a successful day.
