Tuesday 2nd March was the date for the dispersal sale of the 8,895 kgs NMR Holstein herd for J & J Waldron of Barnstaple, Devon. The removal of the herd to Sedgemoor Auction Centre was well rewarded with 34 successful purchasers at the sale and online for the 223 milking cows and heifers on offer.

Three generations of dairy farming and 10 years of Cogent breeding resulted in a good type of cow that was in strong demand on the day. Purchasers from Cornwall to Pembrokeshire and Shropshire combined with a good local support produced 28 lots selling in excess of £2000.

The 220th cow through the ring topped the sale at 2350gns for the “Prismagen King George” second calver which had calved in November and was giving 49.2 kgs and served again to sexed semen. A further four at 2200gns to include “Wiltor Dandy” and “RDG Nafta” second calvers and a red and white January calved heifer. Autumn third calvers by “Hammer-Creek Oman Kody” at 2020gns, fresh fourth calvers at 1900gns x3 and fifth calvers at 1750gns.

A consistently strong demand for good young cows throughout the calving pattern on offer produced the following excellent averages:
