Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt were delighted to be favoured with instructions from the Pickering family of Tonbridge, Kent following their decision to hold a sale of almost 300 commercial Holstein dairy cows, calved heifers and heifer calves. The sale was the first of two sales from Kent to be staged at Sedgemoor in 4 days and comprising nearly 500 milking cows and heifers.

Their decision to move them to the West Country was well rewarded with a very large crowd that produced 44 individual buyers from Cornwall to West Wales and Worcestershire.

The recent strong trade for autumn calvers continued with an October second calver by “Matcrest Chamber ET” selling for 2000gns and autumn calved heifers by “Langley Evolution” due again in September to 1920gns and with others at 1900gns. The fresh milk trade was a lot stronger than of late with several purchasers buying to replace TB reactors taken from their farms recently.

Calved heifers also sold to 2000gns for the December calved daughter of “Seagull-Bay Diamond” and her heifer calf by “ABS Macintosh” sold to 400gns. Other Janauary born heifer calves by “Seagull-Bay MVP” sold to 340gns.
