The auction at the Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, boasted nearly 800 lots and saw three different auctioneers wield the gavel during the mammoth day-long sale.
As Mr Biss quipped: “The only thing we don’t have is a kitchen sink!”
The sale featured nearly 200 jewellery and watch lots. Appropriately it was timepieces that grabbed the headlines in this high calibre offering with a couple of Rolexes appealing to buyers in the room and online.
It was a room bidder who won the day with a Rolex, Oyster Day-Date, gentleman’s Swiss 18ct gold bracelet watch, circa 2001. This came complete with the original receipt from Lord Ponsonby Antiques, Auckland, New Zealand. It was bought for £8,630.
Just behind was a Rolex, Oyster Submariner, gentleman’s stainless steel watch, circa 1994, with box and papers. This sold to a net bidder for £8,400.
Watches were very much in demand with another net bidder securing a Rolex, Oyster Perpetual “Bubbleback” stainless steel wristwatch for £1,900.
The figure of £6,500 was achieved for a diamond three stone ring in a comprehensive jewellery section. Other highlights included a pair of diamond flower-head cluster, stud earrings, which sold for £1,300 to a room bidder and a continental diamond necklace, which went for £1,050.
The clock section also registered a number of notable prices. Top spot belonged to a George III mahogany cased bracket clock by James Muckarsie, Holborn. This went to an online bidder for £1,500.
A phone bidder successfully secured the 18th Century 30-hour longcase clock by James Whittaker for £900.
An enormous Heriz type rug – measuring 610cm x 390cm – found a new home thanks to a phone bidder. It was bought for £1,800.
