Caroline Ferris, Residential Manager at GTH’s Minehead and Williton branches helped spread some seasonal cheer to hard-pressed families in West Somerset helped by the Home-Start charity.

Caroline joined Home-Start staff and volunteers at The Minehead Eye as they packed 42 hampers for families in the area. The Christmas hampers were provided thanks to a “sell one, pay one” policy where fees from completed GTH sales in Minehead and Williton are set aside for the charity.

The charity provides vital support to families with young children across West Somerset and during lockdown has seen demand for its services rocket – with its workload increasing by 160%.

The parcels, which included a fresh chicken dinner with all the trimmings, a Christmas pudding and custard, will make a real difference to families at this time of year.

Christmas crackers, biscuits, mince pies, chocolates and sweets were also given. Along with a food box from the Alcombe Food Bank. Each family also received a copy of The Night Before Christmas and presents for their children.

Home-Start West Somerset is part of a national charity network, but must provide all its own fund-raising.

GTH will continue to support Home-Start over the coming months as they help families from “bump” to baby and beyond, providing practical help and guidance in these unprecedented times.
