Christopher Kivell, a well-known and respected figure throughout the estate agency business in the South West, has just joined property partnership Greenslade Taylor Hunt.

“I have successfully sold property in the Westcountry for nearly 40 years and have personally handled thousands of sales during that time,” said Christopher, who has taken up the role of Branch Manager in South Molton.

He has a wealth of experience in the property business having run his own firm as well as working for large and small firms throughout his lengthy career in Devon and Cornwall.

His move to South Molton coincides with a new chapter in his personal life, as he and his partner Ellie, are setting up home together in Barnstaple.

“It’s a very exciting time,” he said.

He relishes the challenges of the property market having successfully weathered two major recessions. Now he and his colleagues are tackling the impact of Covid19 on the housing market.

“This is something we have never seen before but unlike the recession 10 years ago which was caused by the financial crash and no one knew where it was going, this current situation will come to an end.

“Now more people want to move West and there are unprecedented levels of activity at the moment,” he said.

Christopher puts this down to a mixture of pent-up levels of demand post the Brexit decision at the end of last year, the Stamp Duty “holiday” and also the fact that people are re-assessing their priorities in the light of the pandemic.

“Viewings are off the scale. We have properties that are being viewed by 30-40 people that are then going to best bids,” he said.

However you can only sell a house once so there are many would-be buyers chasing their dream home in the West Country.

Christopher, who was born in Crediton, is passionate about the area and when not working, he likes to spend time with family and friends, as well as playing golf, cycling and walking along the coast and on the moors.
