During his lifetime auctioneer Charles raised more than £2M for various good causes. Now his colleagues will be staging an auction in aid of The Farming Community Network, Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, Somerset Bowel Cancer Support Group and St Margaret’s Hospice later this month.
Choice lots on offer include a luxury villa with chef for eight in Sri Lanka and a hospitality box for 20 people at Somerset County Cricket Club. Tickets to the Six Nations rugby match between England and Ireland at Twickenham next February, a Christmas hamper from Fortnum and Mason and even a dressed turkey will all go under the hammer.
Appropriately a number of livestock will go under the hammer and there are also opportunities to bid on animal transport and fencing.
The sale will take place at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Junction 24, North Petherton, on Saturday, December 21 from 12.15pm.
Fittingly it will be run by some of the auctioneers who have sold alongside Charles and others who have been taught by him.
Andrew Clements, who has taken over from Charles on the calf section, said: “Charles was extremely well respected and raised a fantastic amount over his lifetime.
“The broad range of donations is a testament to his popularity with clients, professionals and acquaintances that so may jumped at the chance to support this event to honour Charles.”
In addition a raffle, with a range of enticing prices including an iPad, will run alongside the auction. Everyone is welcome at the sale. A range of seasonal refreshments will also be on offer.
