Create Home with View of Somerset Levels

October 2022

An interesting opportunity to convert a barn in a countryside location into a stunning spacious home is on offer with development land and planning specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt.

The Moors, Knapp, near North Curry, enjoys an elevated position with far reaching views of the Somerset Levels and Moors. It currently comprises five barns, yard area and agricultural land.

In June 2022 Somerset West and Taunton Council granted Class Q prior approval for the site, which means one of the barns can be converted into a home without the need for further planning consents.

Under this approval one barn can be converted into a five-bedroom (open market) home. It would provide extensive open plan living with dedicated kitchen and dining areas. There would be three double bedrooms with ensuites, the master also having a dressing room.

Completing the accommodation would be another double bedroom, a single bedroom, family bathroom and utility room.

Once converted the barn would have an approximate gross floor area of 2,156 sq ft (200 sq m)

Outside there is a large area of proposed amenity space, courtyard area, agricultural land and barns.

Class Q approval allows for some barns on the site to be demolished, while others will be retained. It is also possible to submit a new detailed planning application for permission to demolish the barn and replace it with a new, purpose-built property.

A guide price in the region of £500,000 is being quoted for the property. The deadline for the submission of offers is 12 noon on Friday, October 28.
