A former plant nursery in Axbridge has been given outline consent to build up to 20 much-needed homes.

Planning experts at Greenslade Taylor Hunt have worked closely with the applicant and Sedgemoor District Council to bring the proposal to a successful conclusion.

Andrew Preston MRICS, Associate with GTH, said: “The proposed development will comply with relevant national and local planning policies, will meet local needs for affordable housing and market housing in Axbridge, and may be carried out in a sustainable and considerate manner.”

Permission has been given for the site at Mendip View, Cheddar Road, Axbridge. The precise layout and the number of houses will be determined later. However 35% of the properties will be earmarked as affordable housing.

The proposed development will meet some of the housing demand identified in the council’s Local Plan for 70 new homes in Axbridge over the coming years.

Council planners described the proposed scheme as “well-related and appropriate in size and scale to Axbridge and represents a modest extension to the settlement.”

They also welcomed its contribution to local affordable housing needs.
