The 2.79 acre site at Buckland Brewer, near Bideford, abuts the existing housing estate of Southwood Meadows and lies on the eastern fringe of the village, which has a range of amenities including a primary school, shop and a pub.
A more comprehensive range of facilities can be found in Bideford – just five miles from the village – which is the largest town in the Torridge area.
Torridge District Council granted detailed planning permission for 28 homes plus associated infrastructure works in November 2020.
The detailed consent provides for a range of terraced, semi-detached and detached dwellings. Eight of the properties are to be affordable, with the majority of these to be social rented and the remainder intermediate.
As part of the consent the council ruled that around £167,005 in contributions for secondary education, secondary education transport provision, highways, off-site green infrastructure and affordable housing would be required from the successful developer.
Previously outline permission, with conditions, for 18 homes on the site was granted in August 2017. As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak planning permissions have been extended and this outline permission is now valid until April 2021.
