Back in November, just as schools were dusting off the decorations and Nativity costumes, Greenslade Taylor Hunt Lettings launched its inaugural Christmas Colouring Competition across its office network in Somerset, Devon and Dorset. This year’s theme was a custom designed gingerbread-style house complete with a GTH ‘To Let’ board outside.
The task was for the children in our chosen local schools to colour and customise their gingerbread house to catch the eye of our judges in the Lettings Maintenance team. The winner and two runner’s up received lots of Christmas goodies with a creative theme and the winning school was presented with £500 to put towards a project of their choosing.
We were delighted that the following nine schools took part with a total over 450 entries received: Northgate Primary in Bridgwater, St Joseph & St Teresa Catholic School in Wells, Honiton Primary, Greenfields Primary in Ilminster, Dunster First School, Fremington Community Primary in South Molton, Trull Primary near Taunton, St Andrew’s School in Cullompton, Tiverton and Primrose Lane Primary in Yeovil.
Our deserving winner was Naomi, age 8, from Trull Primary School. Naomi was delighted to win from among so many entries and will be spending some of her Christmas holidays drawing and colouring with her prize. She was also thrilled to hear that her winning design is being displayed in the window of our Lettings office in Hammet Street, Taunton, for passers-by to admire during the festive season.
Mrs Karen Wedlake, Headteacher at Trull Church of England VA Primary School, commented, “It was fantastic that Naomi won the GTH colouring competition; we were so pleased. We are currently applying for our Artsmark accreditation so the £500 cheque will go into the arts and help us on our journey. Thank you so much!”
Ellesse Beales, Lettings Negotiator in our Bridgwater office, co-ordinated the competition and was delighted with the response from the schools involved. “We were so impressed with the standard of colouring and the clever little details that the children added to personalise their drawings. There are many talented and creative pupils out there! Giving something back to the communities in which we work was the driving force behind the idea and we are thrilled that Trull Primary will be able to advance the arts and benefit the children in their school in such a positive way.”
Our competition runners-up were Mia, age 10, from Honiton Primary and William, age 8, from St Joseph and St Teresa Catholic School in Wells. They also received a prize and will have their designs displayed in our Honiton and Wells office windows.
The idea now is to use Naomi’s winning design as our Lettings Christmas card for 2019 so watch this space!
