Being located almost 2 hours from the nearest motorway, it takes a good herd of cows to get people to travel and 42 individual buyers made the journey for the 287 Pedigree Holsteins and associated dairy equipment that was being sold by Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt at Winterborne Whitechurch, Dorset on Tuesday 9th October 2018.

Fieldbarnfarm’ s herd average of 11,000kgs, use of top sires and quality of cattle ensured a number of volume buyers attended the sale to see a solid trade throughout with an unexpected strong youngstock trade.

The day topped at 1880gns for a Masterful daughter that was freshly calved and had a PLI of £388, a Benner Jazznight daughter out of Dinnaton dam sold to 1780gns both travelling to a pedigree herd in Gloucestershire. Two Volume buyers from the Wellington area secured the two next top priced cows at 1750gns each, both freshly calved and by Mincio & Metalic.

An even trade throughout saw a lot of young cows giving high quantities of milk between 14-1700gns regardless of stage of lactation.

The well-grown youngstock sparked the trade of the day generating one of the strongest trades seen this autumn. Incalf heifers sold to 1500gns due November to Halogen with another Masterful daughter to 1450gns and even February calving heifers selling to 1300gns. Bulling heifers for two year calving by Pulsar and Eight sold to 800gns as did the stylish and well-grown yearlings by the De-Su Hilliard bull.

The day commenced with the selling of the dairy and associated equipment to include £12,500 for the 16,000 litre Fabdec Bulk tank and the neighbours 20,000 litre Liscarrol tank at £11,000.
