Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a trade that exceeded all expectations for the dispersal of 278 Spring calving crossbred cows and heifers for JM Stratton & Co of Warminster. Purchasers from across the West, Sussex, Wales and Yorkshire produced a trade which topped at 1280gns for a February calved Swedish Red X British Friesian 1st lactation heifer that was due again in February to the Norwegian Red. Other 1st lactation Swedish Red and Montbeliarde x due again in February sold to 1220gns x 3.
A consistent trade throughout saw older cows in strong demand with 4th calved Monty x selling to 1100gns, 5th calved Ayrshire x to 1080gns, 6th calved Monty x to 900gns, 7th calved Irish British Friesian to 800gns and 8th calved Irish Holstein Friesian to 680gns.
A day with volume buyers as well as many leaving empty handed generated an impressive average of £870 for the entire herd that included 78 5th calvers or older and all three quartered cows.
