He said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to champion the best of the South West.”
It was the second year running he has hosted the black tie event, which attracts guests from the farming community from across the Westcountry.
He took special pride in naming Nigel Gribble Beef Farmer of the Year. Mr Gribble’s attention to detail and forward planning is paying off at Uphill Farm, near Launceston, on the edge of Bodmin Moor. This award was sponsored by Greenslade Taylor Hunt and presented to Mr Gribble and his wife Anna by Tom Mellor, Associate with Greenslade Taylor Hunt.
“It was a wonderful occasion. There are so many challenges to farming. It was marvellous to have an opportunity to celebrate all that is good in the countryside,” said Mr Venner.
There will be another opportunity to celebrate the best in farming at the South West Winter Fair at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Monday, December 3. Now in its 12th year the Christmas show features cattle, lambs, pigs, lamb carcasses and dressed poultry along with the South West Sausage Competition. It will also include a food and artisan fair for the first time.
The presentation of awards will take place at a special awards ceremony and dinner and dance at Somerset County Cricket Club on Thursday, December 6.
