The exceptional quality of stock on offer resulted in over 30 lots in excess of £2000 which equates to a third of the fresh milk on offer.  Yet again it was a Bettiscombe cow from RE & HE Bugler & Partners that topped the market at 2250gns for the impressive “Emulate Charity” who had calved to her second in October and was giving 54kgs.  At 2200gns and 2150gns were two second calvers from the continued Birchwood dispersal sale for K & M Bond & Son being the GP84 Applejax Thorny 20th and the VG85 Aftershock Sharon, the Bond’s also sold an Ex90 8th calver for 1500gns and an Ex91 4th calver at over £2000.  The two “Hinton” second calvers entered by RD Horton & Son from the Grace and Rosalind families both sold for 2100gns. Calved heifers topped at 2150gns x 2 for LG Bagg & Partners “Huntlodge Quicksilver Royality” and the Bugler’s “Bettiscombe Megaman Sher 3rd”, others at over 2000gns from Birchwood (KH & ME Bond), Hinton (RD Horton & Son), Dorset (Ian Dimond), Dinnaton (DC Dennis & Son Ltd), Beneknowle (PJ Andrews) and Peacehay (FH Chave & Son).  Crossbred cows and heifers from Rotherfield Farms LLP of Hampshire sold to 1620gns for a HF x SR fresh heifer with second calver due again in March at 1400gns.

An excellent entry of incalf heifers sold to 1580gns x 2 for Langleyhill bred heifers from GJ & FL Robertson of Gloucestershire, 1480gns x for Clenchers and Daniels bred heifers from PT & JC Hinds, 1420gns for commercial heifers from PJ Searle & Son and 1400gns x 2 for first time consigners J & J Waldron and also 1400gns for crossbred heifers from Rotherfield Farms.  Bulling heifers sold to 810gns for M & K Churchill & Son and commercial yearlings from Sutton Hall Farms of Lewis, East Sussex to 650gns x 4.

The day started with superb heifer calves from RD Horton & Son’s Hinton herd which sold to 650gns for “Hinton Casper Stocking” and 620gns for the “Pepper Marie”.  A large consignment of July born heifer calves from Thakeham Farms West Sussex sold to 440gns.

The day included GDW Issac & Son’s commercial dispersal which sold to 1600gns for a fresh 4th calver and averaged an impressive £1209.
