Other heifers sold to 1900gns for FH Chave & Son’s Peacehay Megawatt Lulu who travelled from Wellington and will make the journey across to Ireland in a few weeks and 1800gns for Peevee Freckle Betsy from GA & H Vicary & Son’s a new consignor to Sedgemoor from Edenbridge. A more selective trade was produced for frailer, lower yielding second quality heifers.
Cows sold to 1900gn for DC Dennis & Son Ltd’s (Ivybridge) Dinnaton Palermo Galaxy Bluebell and 1720gns for the same vendor.
Commercial autumn calving incalf heifers sold to £1020 for E Drew. Pedigree bulling heifers, with PLI’s up to £450 sold to 890gns x2 for daughters of Silver and Fox from the Allerways herd of RA & SA Reed. Many of the top PLI’s in the catalogue came from Y Farm’s heifer calves with daughters of Samovar and Shilling topping at 350gns.
The covered yard commercial herd of September to February calving cows from ET Farwell & Sons topped at 1280gns for a heifer that had calved in October and was due again at the end of this year. Spring calving cows that aren’t holding a good level of milk production continue to have limited demand.
The 34 purchasers registered from Devon to West Wales, with animals even heading to Ireland, produced the following averages:
