Red Heifer Sets Alight the Winter Warmer Trade at Sedgemoor Auction Centre

The first collective Dairy Sale of the year at Sedgemoor Auction Centre was the Annual Winter Warmer Sale where Scarletleaf Rager Renita Red VG85-2year consigned by Sophie Morgan with 9 gens of VG/EX behind tracing back to the well-known Stelbro Renita Ranger Red Cow sold for 2700gns to an Irish buyer.  A further 22 sold for over £2000 with a grand consignment from Mark Reeds Culverhayes Herd topping the cows at 2150gns x 2 for 3rd calvers from the Mouse family and 2nd calvers from the Ivy family by Silverado.  Heifer calves following their Dams from Culverhayes sold for 360gns for R2 D2 Daisy by Nortonhill.  Walkabout Golddust Canary 2nd GP81 from E Gay & Son calved to her second sold for 2100gns.  Other cows over 2000gns from “Peacehay” and “Longmoor”.

Calved heifers sold to 2050gns x 2 for the continued Dinnaton Dispersal for DC Dennis & Son being members of the Total Eclipse and Oreo families by the homebred bull Dinnaton Day County Detective.   Moorshard Pepper Shower 2nd from the Miller’s sold for 2000gns.

Incalf heifers in the collective section included the very last consignment from Jeremy & Anita Bown with their Steventon Heifers in strong demand selling to 1750gns for the Checkpoint Bridget 2nd and 1700gns for another Bridget and a Buttercup all due in Feb.  LJ, MJ & GJ Williams dispersal continued with incalf heifers from their Stbridesvalley Herd selling to 1550gns and 1500gns x2.

The day included the Dispersal Sale for AK & SJ King and family  of Malmesbury starting with their dairy equipment and surplus machinery which generated an electric trade to include £20,000 for the 2020 Shelbourne 2300 Side Discharge Muck Spreader, £14,000 2018 MF 1747 Tractor, £7400 Kuhn HR4003D Power Harrow, £5,800 Meuller 8,000L Bulk Milk Tank and £5,000 Opico Grass Harrows.   Their commercial all year around calving herd sold to 1800gns for the Spring 2nd calver dry and due to her third in March, other summer calvers due to their 2nd lactation generated a strong trade selling to 1780gns x 2 and 1750gns.

A day when trade was very much influenced by strength produced the following creditable averages from 54 different purchasers spanning the country from Cornwall to Staffordshire:-
