Two evenings of packed rooms and fierce bidding not only resulted in some nail-biting auctions, but also saw some truly exceptional prices being achieved. With around 3,000 acres being sold and a 100% clearance rate, those who entered standing straw into the auction would have been extremely happy with the outcome.
Rural Surveyor and Auctioneer Tom Mellor said “While we knew high figures had already been reached this season, we couldn’t have predicted the prices we have seen over the last two nights. In fact we wouldn’t be surprised if these were some of the highest in the country. With demand outstripping supply, prices attained are higher than we can remember. With winter barley reaching up to £198/acre and winter wheat crops topping a tremendous £230/acre it was a success all round.”
