Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt are preparing to host two sales next week as the monthly antiques sale and the second quarterly collectors event take place at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.

Both auctions are on view today (Tuesday, March 5) and Wednesday, March 6, from 9am-5pm.

The antiques sale takes place from 10am on Thursday, March 7, and the collectors’ sale starts at the same time on Friday, March 8.

There is much for the collector to enthuse about including a nice collection of boxed Matchbox cars consigned by a vendor in Sussex.

A signed picture of iconic comic duo Laurel and Hardy is another item sure to be popular in the saleroom. It is likely the photo dates from their last tour of Britain, which has recently been the subject of a successful film with Steve Coogan.

There is an interesting section of advertising and packaging materials including a travelling salesman’s confectionery sample case complete with dummy chocolate bars.

Continuing this theme there are two nice examples of Tate & Lyle folding-card advertising materials entered in the sale from different vendors in Somerset and the Home Counties. One shows samples of refined sugar from around the world, while the other features samples of natural and processed sugar products.

In the toy section there are boxed Britains model soldiers including Hussars and Lancers. A London vendor has consigned this childhood collection.

There are a number of dolls on offer including bisque and plastic examples. Two Sindy collections will go under the hammer together with an interesting selection of fashion outfits from the 1960s.

In the militaria section there are a number of interesting badges and insignia from the Somerset Light Infantry and Somerset Yeomanry.
