Around 200 lots from the era will go under the hammer at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, following the conclusion of the regular monthly antiques auction, which begins at 10am.
The 20th Century Design Sale has been put together by specialist Simon Rayner, who is a keen devotee of the era and is responsible for the biannual 20th Century Design Sales, which have become a popular staple at the salerooms.
Its January counterpart had to be re-arranged and then held behind closed doors because of Covid restrictions, but the July sale will be able to welcome bidders into the room. Naturally stringent safety measures will be followed.
In the run up to the sale prospective buyers can book a private slot to view items of interest that will be included in the auction.
Scandinavian design is strongly featured in all its forms from jewellery and ceramics to furniture.
Work by popular makers Georg Jensen, Ladderax and Moorcroft will be well represented in the auction.
Designer Robert Heal created the Ladderax modular shelving and storage system for Staples of Cricklewood, London in 1964. He was inspired by the work of the "Danish school". This mid-century Scandinavian design movement was largely about re-interpreting simple, linear shapes from Georgian and Shaker pieces, and making them “straighter”.
As well as Ladderax there is an attractive Danish version of modular wooden wall units entitled System Cado, which is included in the sale.
