A Belgium buyer bought the top lot in this section, an oil on canvas by Arthur Trevor Haddon of Arab horsemen before a gateway.
The buyer had to contend with interest from another phone bidder before he emerged victorious and secured the painting for £3,950.
Prices were robust throughout the picture section and there was demand for prints, watercolours and oils at the Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.
Probably the most charming among the oil offerings was a delightful study of a “Terrier by a stable wall” by William Henry Trood. A net buyer paid £2,200 for the appealing image.
A signed watercolour by landscape artist Alfred Heaton Cooper sparked further internet interest. This painting depicted Lindisfarne Priory, with Holy Island beyond. It sold for £1,000.
A moody rendering of Whitby by Alfred Pollentine was another notable entry. Best known for his Venetian scenes he also painted some British coastal views. His signed oil on canvas attracted interest from a phone bidder, who lost out on the painting. It sold for £850.
The next antiques sale takes place on Thursday, May 2. It will feature a significant section of books and maps.
It is on view on Saturday, April 27, from 9am-12.30pm and again on Tuesday, April 30, and Wednesday, May 1, from 9am-5pm.
