From Graduate Trainee to GTH Chairman

January 2023

Richard Webber, Partner in charge of the South Molton and Barnstaple offices, has just taken up the reins as Chairman of Greenslade Taylor Hunt, the multi-disciplinary property partnership, which has offices across Somerset, Devon and Dorset.

“It is hard to believe that when I joined ‘Greenslade Hunt’ some 27 years ago as an APC graduate, clerking on the cattle at Taunton and Bridgwater markets, that I would find myself in the position I do today. How on earth did that happen?

Nevertheless, it shows the opportunity available in a firm such as Greenslade Taylor Hunt and I only hope that I can carry out this privileged role with just a modicum of the adeptness shown by my predecessors,” said Richard

He takes over from Duncan Brown, Partner in charge of the firm’s Commercial Division.

“I would like to thank Duncan Brown for his superb leadership and guidance over the past two years. Duncan has done a sterling job in navigating the firm through what have been turbulent times and he will be a very tough act to follow.

With the economy struggling, inflation and interest rates rising, we are undoubtedly facing challenging times. However, in adversity there is always opportunity and the diversity that we are able to offer should stand us in good stead to be able to weather any storm.

My fellow partners and I believe we have one of the strongest teams the firm has ever seen and that we can look ahead to the coming years with confidence. Nevertheless, we must never become complacent and continue providing a first class service to our clients, ” he continued.

Confirming this optimism the firm opened its newest office in Barnstaple last year reinforcing its commitment to expand its extensive office network.

A farmer’s son from North Devon, Richard joined the firm having graduated from Seale Hayne Agricultural College with an honours degree in agriculture followed by a Masters in Estate Management from the Royal Agricultural College.

He qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1998 and became a Partner with the firm in 2003. He is the Managing Partner of the South Molton Office and deals primarily with the professional valuation and sale of farms, equestrian property, smallholdings and land.

In his spare time Richard enjoys working on the home farm with his family, fly fishing, running and reading.
