Fresh milk sells well at Sedgemoor Auction Centre for the Michaelmas Collective Sale on Tuesday 18th September, but youngstock trade remains difficult with continuing fodder concerns.

The trade at the sale demonstrated the purchasers need for a quick return on their investment with fresh calvers selling to 1900gnns for R & M Lougher & Sons second calver “Tanglwyst Ayers Lilac GP80”. Other second calvers sold to 1820gns for the robot milked commercial cow from Anton Smith, 1800gns for “Mendip Lancer Christine 54th” for TR Quick and 1750gns for “Dinnaton Dempsey Tampa Bluebell VG84” from DC Dennis & Son.

Calved heifers sold to 1880gns for “Withamhall Cinderdoor Cloe” and 1850gns for “Withamhall Palermo Enid 2nd” for first time consigners DB & H Miles. Others sold to 1750gns for “Dinnaton Modbury Basquiant Dainty” from DC Dennis & Son and for the commercial “Ballycairn Supersire Corinthian” daughter for HJ Baldwin & Sons.

The trade for incalf heifers varied considerably with off lying smaller heifers proving hard to place. Commercial homebred heifers from RHPT Coffin & Son’s final dispersal sold to 1260gns for the May 2016 born heifer due November to the Aberdeen Angus. Others from the same Vendor sold to 1180gns twice.

Organic bulling heifers met a very selective demand selling to 590gns for Waldegrave Farms.
