Mollie makes the grade as chartered surveyor
November 2024
Juggling study and work has paid off for Mollie Gillard who can put MRICS after her name as a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Mollie initially joined Greenslade Taylor Hunt on her work placement year as part of her degree in rural enterprise and management from Harper Adams University.
“Year three at Harper took you outside the classroom into the working environment for a year in the industry. I spent the year in the GTH Burnham-on-Sea office, confirming my decision to become a rural surveyor as I thoroughly enjoyed my time,” explained Mollie, who since graduating is now based at the firm’s Dorchester office.
Mollie grew up in Somerset with a strong passion for the countryside so a professional role in a rural setting was always likely.
“I decided to go down this professional route as I always loved being out in the countryside. Rural surveying combined this with being able to understand the issues facing our environment, and to help the people who live and work there to make the most of their land and property,” said Mollie.
She loves the variety her job offers.
“Looking in my diary seeing no two days the same!
I support clients with a variety of professional services from landlord and tenant matters, rural grant funding, land and property sales (to name a few!), taking me all across the Dorset countryside - which on a summer’s day who can complain!
And of course, Sedgemoor Saturdays!” she added where she spends the earlier part of the morning in the pig section, booking in and clerking at sale time.
Later she heads to the dairy ring where she coordinates the online bidding, or clerks for the dairy auctioneers.
Devoting her time to studying for her degree and her RICS qualification meant putting her interest in equestrianism on hold.
“Having competitively show jumped from the age of 11, my riding took a backseat when I set off for Harper in 2018. Now I am qualified I am excited for the next few months getting to know my new horse Arthur, and competing on the British Show Jumping and county show circuit next year – and riding to the pub!” said Mollie.
Greenslade Taylor Hunt has long been a champion of investing in graduates and undergraduates. It has a well-established scheme, which runs across the disciplines of the firm. For more information, please contact [email protected]
