Ryan proves himself cream of the crop
February 2025
Graduate surveyor Ryan Doble has plenty to celebrate. Not only has he gained his professional qualification allowing him to put FAAV after his name. He has just heard he achieved the top mark in the practical exam in the South West.
A delighted Ryan said: ““I can’t really believe it to be honest! To top the practical element for the Western Counties Association is something I’m really proud of. I had no real expectations going into the exam but I am just glad my hard work is paying off thanks to the support of my colleagues in Honiton, Sedgemoor and the wider firm.”
The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) is a specialist professional body representing, qualifying and briefing almost 3,000 members practising in a diverse range of agricultural and rural work throughout the UK and Northern Ireland.
CAAV members are agricultural and rural valuers who provide professional advice and valuation expertise on issues affecting the countryside.
As part of the practical exam Ryan and the other candidates spent a morning on a farm with a practical book, taking notes and answering a score of different questions related to rural practice.
“Observations and assumptions were as key as some of the answers!” explained Ryan.
Then there was time to firm up responses in an exam hall before the written practical paper in the afternoon which required more elaborate answers to some of the scenarios that had played out in the morning.
The paper covered a widespread and comprehensive range of subjects from identifying and valuing livestock, fodder, crops and machinery to recommending options under the Sustainable Farming Incentive for certain fields and recommendations for a proposed land sale, including method of sale and brochure details.
Ryan joined Greenslade Taylor Hunt in 2021 after graduating from Harper Adams University. He is based at the Honiton office, where he works alongside Will Handel MRICS FAAV, the firm’s Vice Chairman.
He said: “We are delighted for Ryan and he should be exceptionally proud of what he has achieved. There is no doubt that he is fully deserving of receiving top marks in the Western Counties Association for the recent CAAV exams.
The commitment he shows to his work not only in the Honiton office but at Sedgemoor Auction Centre is exceptional and the high levels of service that he provides is reflected in these results. This success is the perfect lead up to taking his RICS exams this spring.”
Ryan also undertakes regular auctioneering duties at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Junction 24, North Petherton. He is continuing his studies as he works towards his RICS chartered surveyor qualifications.
Away from work he helps out on his family farm and also enjoys live sport, particularly football and rugby.
