A great time to sell gold and silver
May 2024
In the past couple of years gold and silver have hit a high and this has translated into excellent prices at auction reports Deborah Cole, Consultant Valuer, at our Somerset Auction Rooms.
“Art Deco jewellery and cufflinks are fetching high prices and a lot of interest,” she explained.
In its next sale on Thursday, June 6, the auction house will be showcasing an Art Deco sapphire and diamond 18ct white gold plaque ring. It features old European and Swiss cut diamonds, estimated to total 1.4 carats.
It is in very good condition for its age and has a guide price of £1,500-£1,800.
Continuing the ring theme is an estate cut diamond three stone platinum ring which has a pre-sale estimate of £800-£850.
A weighty 9ct vintage charm bracelet has generated a good deal of pre-sale interest and is guided at £800-£850.
Meanwhile a pair of 18ct gold wedding bands are in the sale with a guide of £400-£450.
Deborah noted: “Gold and silver prices are currently at a two-year high. All pieces, new and old, are selling well at auction, even those that are damaged or incomplete."
Jewellery, sterling silver items, silverware, pocket and wristwatches are also performing very strongly in our popular monthly sales due to their silver content and current fashion interest.
Economic uncertainty around the world continues to drive investors to seek the relatively, reliable safe haven of precious metals making now a great time to sell gold and silver items.
GTH’s next antiques sale takes place from 10am on Thursday, June 6, at the Somerset Auction Rooms, Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Junction 24, North Petherton.
