Diamonds Continue To Deliver At Auction
June 2026
Movie icon Marilyn Monroe famously sang diamonds are a girl’s best friend and in the week that she would have celebrated her 100th birthday the timeless gemstone took centre stage at the Somerset Auction Rooms.
An old cut diamond three stone ring mounted in platinum generated a good deal of pre-sale interest at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Junction 24, North Petherton.
This translated into fevered bidding which peaked at £4,500 for the old mine cut diamonds, estimated to total 3.2 carats.
The elegant old mine cut is enjoying new-found popularity and is becoming just as sought after as its flashier counterpart, the brilliant cut.
A very good condition 18ct gold full hunter pocket watch, hallmarked London 1947, also attracted salegoers and comfortably exceeded its pre-sale guide to sell at £3,600.
Jewellery of all types was well represented in the sale. An 18ct white gold sapphire and diamond ring was another lot to surpass its estimate and sell for an impressive £1,500.
Charm bracelets are also enjoying a bit of a renaissance in the saleroom and a 9ct gold curb link charm bracelet with a mix of 9ct and 14ct charms including an abacus, lizard and Chinese character sold for £1,400.
The same sum was achieved for an antique silver Thabeik bowl depicting tales from the life of Buddha.
The next jewellery, watches and silverware sale will take place on Thursday, July 2, from 10am. For more information, please contact the Somerset Auction Rooms on 01278 410250.
