Gold and silver attract strong prices at auction
October 2024
Antique specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt report another successful jewellery, watches and silver sale.
Demand was high from discerning buyers keen to purchase the quality lots on offer at The Somerset Salerooms, Junction 24, North Petherton.
Savvy buyers realise that buying at auction can offer the chance to find distinctive pieces that are not available on the High Street. Buyers also find that their money goes further at auction than in a retail setting.
Among the October sale highlights was a quantity of sterling silver flatware, hallmarked Sheffield, 1907, which sold for £1,500.
A ladies gold cocktail watch also attracted strong interest. Generally, it’s men’s watches that appeal and achieve big prices in the saleroom, but this striking ladies 18ct gold Bucherer cocktail watch, circa 1972, with its original paperwork, proved a star performer. It made £1,300.
An unusual 18ct gold fire opal and diamond ring featuring a good quality opal in a setting of brilliant cut diamonds comfortably exceeded its pre-sale estimate and went for £850.
An 18ct gold triple rope link chain necklace sold for £780.
A smart Art Deco silver tea service with geometric detailing and gadrooned edging standing on orb feet, hallmarked Chester 1931, sold for £500.
The next similar sale takes place on Thursday, November 7. For more information and to consign items please contact the salerooms on 01278 410250.
