No January blues at antiques auction

There was no sign of sale fatigue as the Somerset Auction Rooms hosted its first event of 2026 at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

The saleroom was abuzz with buyers keen to bag a special piece as the silver, jewellery and watches sale got underway.

Good prices were achieved across the board with jewellery in particular selling well.

However, it was a collection of antique sterling silver flatware, ranging in date from 1893 to 1976, which took top spot selling for £2,300.

Prior to the auction a Georgian sapphire and pearl ring had generated much interest. This beautiful cornflower blue sapphire in a Ceylonese style surrounded by pearl cabochons sold for £2,200.

A striking antique diamond and platinum solitaire ring went for £1,000.

A sterling silver fruit bowl, hallmarked Sheffield 1924, maker’s mark Thomas Bradbury & Son was the pick of the silverware and achieved £720.

Watches continue to attract interest and this time a pair of ladies’ gold Art Deco watches took top billing in the watch section.

One with 15 jewel Rolex movement was hallmarked London 1922 and the other Chester 1936. They sold for £600.

Just behind this figure was an Omega Seamaster De Ville wristwatch, lacking its original strap, which went for £550. 

A fancy 9ct gold diamond and enamel cufflinks set with rose and senaille cut diamonds in its original presentation box sold for £520 despite missing three of its diamonds.

An 18ct white gold and diamond cluster ring sold for £500 and an antique 9ct gold belcher link fob chain sold for £540.
