Textured jug takes top spot at sale

April 2024

A large silver jug caused a frenzy of bidding at The Somerset Auction Rooms most recent antiques sale.

Prior to the event at Sedgemoor Auction Centre nearly 20 people had registered their interest in buying the item. The textured jug dated from the early 1970s and was made in London. It sold for £1,800 comfortably beating its pre-sale guide. It was the top selling lot of the day.

A local buyer secured a vintage 9ct gold charm bracelet. Intense bidding saw this sail past its guide price of £800-£900 with the opening bid coming in at £850. It sold for £1,300.

A gent’s Breitling Top-time chronograph watch also enjoyed a good deal of pre-sale interest. It was bought by an online bidder from the South East for £950.

A pretty Art Deco diamond ring, probably platinum, sold for £300, while an early 20th Century 18ct opal and old cut diamond cocktail ring fetched £450.

Sedgemoor Auction Centre beside the M5 at North Petherton is a well-located venue with plenty of free parking on site as well as a café making it the perfect hunting ground for antiques and collectables.

Preparations are well in hand for the next specialist collectors and selected antiques sale, which takes place at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Junction 24, on Wednesday, April 24, at 10am.
