Boseley in demand at SAC

September 2026

A tremendous entry of 253 dairy cattle generated good ringside attendance and strong online support, resulting in an excellent trade that rewarded the quality cattle on offer. Fresh milk continued to be the main draw with well-bred young cows and calved heifers attracting buyers from throughout the Southwest and beyond. The sale featured several dispersal and reduction consignments alongside the Collective entry.

The sale opened with pedigree heifer calves from Rookhaye that toped at 1,120gns on two occasions for May born calves from the Dulcie and Trui families. A total of 16 calves, including the Beaconhill A-lots, levelled at 800gns with buyers keen to secure families carrying strong production credentials for the future.

Fresh calved cows sold to a top of 3,700gns for a stylish second calver Clenchers Lambda Bounty 8th VG85 giving 56kgs from Rea & Son, closely followed by others at 3,550gns to 3,600gns again from Clenchers and from Beaconhill – MKJ Reed & Son, Boseley – Greenwood Partners and Llanelen – TCD, CB, DE & B Jones. The fresh cow section averaged an impressive £3,221, with best quality young cows regularly selling between 3,300gns and 3,700gns. Additional entries from the Latterfield herd of JJ Wooldridge sold to 3,450gns and averaged 3,425gns for their 2 heifers and 4 cows sold on the day.

A feature of the day was the outstanding run of 29 calved cows and heifers from first time consigners Greenwood Partners' Boseley herd which generated tremendous interest, with a peak of 3,700gns for their August calved heifer Boseley Conway Jodi with other calved heifers at 3,600gns, 3,500gns x 2, 3,400gns x 6. Their consignment averaged an impressive 3,350gns, reflecting the strength of demand for strong milking cows and heifers with both milk and breeding behind them.  Other calved heifers in the Collective section sold to 3,500gns for Latterfield - JJ Wooldridge and 3,450gns and 3,300gns for Llanelen – TCD, CB, DE & B Jones.

A superb consignment of 25 Pure Friesian freshly calved cows and Heifers from the Tincknell family topped at 3250gns with 6 over £3000.

The dispersal of the Ampney herd on behalf of IA & HS Godwin attracted widespread attention. Young cows milking well sold to 3,050gns, whilst calved heifers from the dispersal reached 2,900gns.

The final dispersal of the day was for MJ House’s commercial herd which offered buyers genuine grazing-type cattle. A consistent trade from start to finish toped at 2,600gns.  Off lying cows sold well but the trade for these was definitely reflective of the year with fodder an ongoing concern for many.

In-calf heifers sold to 2,250gnsfor IA & HS Godwin’s Ampney Frankfurt Lottie due in October with others at 2200gns x 2 for commercial heifers due October / November for Merryfield Farmers Ltd.

The concluding section of served and maiden heifers saw Kingswater's served heifers reach 1,620gns x 2 for RJ & AAG Simmons with Chiselborough's genomically tested maidens also selling to 1,620gns x 2 for EB Holloway & Son.
