Farming Investment Fund Opportunity

June 2025

By Mollie Gillard BSc Hons, MRICS FAAV, Rural Surveyor

The window is currently live for farmers, contractors and landowners in England for the opportunity to obtain grant funding of up to £25,000 (per theme) towards machinery, equipment and technology items under the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF).

The grant is a government-backed initiative designed to provide financial assistance for specific items with the aim to drive farming forward by equipping enterprises with the necessary tools to adapt, compete, and grow.

The application is unfortunately not a rolling application and the deadline for applications are due by 10th July 2025.

So, what can I claim & how can I apply?

The government has allocated £46.7 million to the 2025 FETF funding round, and it will be delivered through a competitive application process. The amount of funding ranges from £1,000 to £25,000 for each theme, with a grant paid on a standardised percentage of the cost of items.

The items available are categorised into three themes with each theme having a tailored list:
-    Productivity: 66 options
-    Slurry Management: 17 options
-    Animal Health & Welfare: 100+ options

The Animal Health & Welfare list covers farmers and contractors in the following sectors; beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry.

The grant finding is contribution between 40-50% depending on the theme, and the grant amount listed against each item is the amount the Rural Payments Agency will pay you based on calculations for market averages for each item of equipment. Alternatively, if you obtain a lower price for the item, the grant contribution will be based on that lower figure.

Applications are available to registered businesses on the Rural Payment Agency and applied through the Farming Investment Fund Service – this is a separate portal to the Rural Payments Service.

FETF is a competitive scheme, if your application falls below the scoring threshold it will be unsuccessful, and the Rural Payments Agency will reject it.  As a result, not everyone who applies will be successful. However, you can improve your application by 20% by providing evidence that you’ve discussed your FETF 2025 application with a vet under the Animal Health & Welfare theme. If this is your first round of applying for the scheme and if you are applying for slurry items, your score will increase by 25%.

Key takeaways:
-    Application window 29th May 2025 – 10th July 2025
-    Updated options and specifications for the 2025 round of applications
-    Competitive application process
-    Applicants are able to apply to any or all three themes
-    Only one application window for 2025
-    Items are to be paid for fully before a claim can be made
