Peacehay Radio Rachel rocks Sedgemoor Collective Sale selling to £3,465

A good entry of fresh milk for the first Collective Sale of the year produced an electric trade for the quality cattle on offer to produce a record fresh milk average for the cows of £2,742.50. Topping the day was David & Ian Chave’s calved heifer Peacehay Radio Rachel who was from a longline of Ex Rockset Dams selling for £3,465 with her 3 week old heifer calf following her through the ring and selling for £546. Another excellent pedigree behind the Davlea Delta Lambda Lulu 4th from Max Davies generated a price of £3255. At £3,045 was the much admired red and white heifer Clenchers Augustus Vanessa from Rea & Son who sold their three heifers to average £2,957.50.

Milk is driving the trade with a markedly stronger demand for cows giving 35kgs plus, with 3 cows on the day selling for £3,045 being the 2nd calver Allerways Cyprus Teresa 11th from RA & SA Reed and the 2nd calver Leweston Altapledge Favourite and 3rd calver Leweston Alatazarek Starette from a consignment of 12 from Leweston Farms of Sherborne who sold another 2 3rd calvers for £2,940. The 2nd calver Llanelen Fritz Blomke rom TCD, CB & DE Jones also sold for £2,940 .

The continued dispersal for Hislop and Son sold commercial second calvers to £2,677.50 and heifers to £2,572.50. The final main dispersal for Paul & Anna Brunt sold to £2835 for a commercial third lactation cow giving 38.2kgs.

Incalf heifers calving Feb / March sold to £1,995 x 5 for Mearfield & Tranch bred heifers consigned by P Wedden & Partners and 2 x commercial heifers from RA & DA Plowright.

A much brighter youngstock trade saw bulling heifers from EB Holloway & Son’s Chiselborough herd selling to £966 x 3 with other heifer calves from MJK Reed & Son Beaconhill herd at £441 & £420.
