Desirable Farm Sold for First time in 50 Years

December 2022

A private buyer has snapped up an exceptional renovation, conversion and development proposition in North Devon.

Gillards Farm, West Down, near Ilfracombe, had come to the market for the first time in more than half a century via Greenslade Taylor Hunt. The development land and planning specialists were quoting a guide price of £925,000 for this special property.

Mark Chugg, Partner at GTH, said: “Gillards Farm offers the rare opportunity to live in a desirable and sought-after location, within easy access of some of the region’s most beautiful sandy beaches, peaceful coves, stunning cliffs, scenic walks and the rugged charm of Exmoor National Park. Yet it is within reach of all the services, facilities and amenities that the area offers and good communication links to the wider region.”

The property, on the eastern edge of the vibrant village, comprises a period, three-bedroom farmhouse for renovation, a range of traditional barns and a modern farm building for conversion, opportunities for development and other ancillary land. It extends, in total, to approximately 1.65-hectares (4.09-acres).

James Nelson, Development Surveyor, co-ordinated the sale on behalf of Greenslade Taylor Hunt, while Stephanie Cleak, of Slee Blackwell Solicitors, represented the seller and Tim Nock, of Brewer Harding and Rowe Solicitors LLP acted for the buyer.

Demand for development land and properties with development potential is high across the South West. If you would like advice on the best method of sale please contact the expert team at GTH on 01823 334466 or email landplanning.taunton@gth.net
