Somerset Call For Sites

November 2024

Somerset Council has confirmed it will soon be opening a ‘Call for Sites’. This will represent the first stage in the preparation of a new Somerset Local Plan, which will ultimately set policies to guide new development across the county. It will also allocate specific sites for development.

By initiating a ‘Call for Sites’, the council is inviting landowners and developers to identify land as being available, suitable and deliverable for housing, employment or mixed-use developments. Submitted sites will then be assessed by the council and could be selected for allocation in the emerging Local Plan. In most cases suitable sites should be located within or adjoining the built-up area of a town or village.

To clarify, only sites submitted during the ‘Call for Sites’ process may be considered for allocation. Developers and landowners are therefore advised to ensure that relevant sites are submitted for consideration.

Based in Taunton, the Greenslade Taylor Hunt planning team has unrivalled local knowledge and experience of promoting land for development in Somerset. Our team of experts has a combined 90 years’ of planning experience and are therefore well placed to promote land through the ‘Call for Sites’ process.

The ‘Call for Sites' is anticipated to open in late December or early January. If you would like to discuss the potential of your land and whether it could be a suitable candidate for submission as part of the Somerset’ Call for Sites’ then please do get in touch with the GTH planning team on: 01823 334466, or by email on: [email protected]
