Ben Earns Key Property Industry Qualification

June 2026

Experienced lettings professional Ben Goodyear is celebrating after being awarded his MARLA accreditation.

Ben, who heads up the South Molton lettings department, for Greenslade Taylor Hunt, has more than two decades of experience in the property industry.

His busy career has left him with little time for study, but he has now managed to fit in the necessary learning and has achieved his MARLA qualification.

MARLA stands for Membership of the Association of Residential Agents and modules cover the general role of a property professional, legal considerations and then a deeper understanding of the lettings landscape.

Knowing Ben is up-to-date with the latest rules and regulations affecting the letting industry is particularly important for tenants and landlords alike as the Renters’ Rights Act – the biggest upheaval in the sector in years has just come into effect.

Among the changes which came into force on May 1, 2026 are:

•    Abolition of Section 21
•    End of Fixed-Term Tenancies
•    Rent Increases
•    Ban on Rental Bidding
•    Rental Restrictions
•    Pets
•    Rent in Advance

Ben has a wealth of knowledge about the legislation and the North Devon area. He relocated from the West Midlands so can offer help and advice for people making similar moves.

Ben enjoys the countryside and the outdoor opportunities North Devon offers. He is also a firm believer that as a local firm Greenslade Taylor Hunt should be giving back and helping the local community.

To this end the office and its Barnstaple counterpart are currently supporting the work of the North Devon Hospice.

“There is a personal reason for choosing this charity as my mother-in-law, Ros, passed away from cancer several years ago. She was only in her late forties so it was a real shock and upset to her family, my wife and me,” explained Ben.

“The local hospice where we lived at that time were amazing in the support they offered, from just being somebody to talk to through to providing equipment such as a specialist mattress so Ros could be comfortable at home. Ros passed away without physically spending anytime in the actual hospice, but the care and support of the hospice staff during her short illness was amazing.”

A percentage from each new letting instruction at the South Molton and Barnstaple offices will be donated to the vital work of the North Devon Hospice.
