Quality & youngstock in strong demand at SAC Dairy Collective

January 2026

Despite an understandably subdued dairy industry Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a well-attended sale which produced a consistently good trade throughout their first collective dairy sale of the year at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.   The day topped at £3,150 for the Chave families freshly calved heifer Peacehay Alps Bridget, she joins a herd making the most of the opportunity to secure quality and breeding having sold barren cows on a good trade through SAC. Other heifers to £2,992.50 for the Topshayes herd of the Pople family Dorset, alongside 4 at £2,625 and 4 at £2,520 for the Peacehay, Topshayes and Clenchers herds.

Calved cows were also topped by Peacehay at £3,045 for the second calver Peacehay Cheers Rochelle VG86 with Clenchers Prosecco Doll selling for £2,730.

The dispersal section saw the Organic herd from AH Warren Trusts Eastlease Farm which was mainly crossbred autumn calvers top at £2,467.50, the Hislop families continued dispersal selling to £2,331 and the Boyers Friesians to £1,627.50.

Incalf heifers topped at £2,047.50 twice, which was a marked improvement on the month, for a super consignment from the Otterwyn herd dispersal which also saw others to £1,995 as did the dispersal for the commercial non recorded heifers from AH Hook & Sons.

The trade of the day was without doubt was for the youngstock on offer with both bulling and yearling heifers selling to £1,470 for P & P Horton and fresh calves topping at £672 for FH Chave & Sons.

It was pleasing to see so many interested bidders with 42 recorded purchasers spanning from Carmarthen to Birmingham and of course the entirety of the southwest creating the following creditable averages:
