A bumper entry for our July Collective with over 450 head forward, ALL SOLD, included the Dispersal Sale of the CIS Recorded “Riverwood” Herd of pedigree Holsteins for MJ & YL Burrows which sold to £2310 for the calved heifers “Riverwood Cordial Plum” VG86 and “Spring Beth” GP84. The Dispersal Sale of 29 organic, Pedigree Holsteins Friesians being the “Varley” herd for EW, SJ & TW Scolding of Glos sold to £2100 for “Varley Fedex Domino 443rd” who had calved to her 3rd lactation in June. The final Dispersal Sale of 127 commercial cows and incalf heifers with no records for W Dale & Sons of Sussex topped at £1837 for a dry cow due August to her 4th calf and £1890 for an incalf heifer due September.
The sale produced 64 lots which sold for in excess of £2000. South West Holstein 2023 Herd Champions, RK & SG Miller and Sons and DC Dennis & Son Ltd shared the day’s top spot of £2572.50 (2450gns) with Moorshard Pepper Fawn (GP82), a second calver and Dinnaton Masterful Dalliance Wallen, a freshly calved heifer from the continued Dinnaton dispersal. Following close behind at £2520 was another calved heifer, Clenchers Jone Paddy consigned by Rea & Son of Ledbury. A forward consignment of dry cows from the Thorner Dispersal Sale which takes place on 1st August at Sedgemoor showed the quality of the herd with a July calver due to her 3rd selling for £2394.
Other cows selling in excess of 2000gns included Riverwood x 8, D Thorner x 8, Bettiscombe x 3, Peacehay x 3, Moorshard x 3, Clenchers x 1 and Varley x 1. Calved Heifers selling in excess of 2000gns Dinnaton x 15, Bettiscombe x 6, MKJ Reed & Son x2, Burrows x2, Moorshard x 1 and Clenchers x 1.
Hawkins Farm Partnership’s continued dispersal topped the incalf heifer section that fired throughout for the second month running, with the August calving Tarischka Poter Smut selling for £2467.50. Closely followed by another dispersal August calving heifer Tomson Raptor Rene 71st at £2415 consigned by M Hooper & Sons Ltd. Other incalf heifers from MB & LC Haskell to £2205 x 2 and J Dale & Son and J Crockford both to £1890.
Pedigree Yearlings and older sold to £934.50 x 2 for MKJ Reed & Son and £787.50 for DG Waterman Partnership. Calves sold to £590 x 3 for D Thorner (Dispersal).
The convenient location of Sedgemoor Auction Centre attracted over 50 successful purchasers on the day from Cornwall to Wales, Northampton & Crewe as well as strong Dorset, Devon & Somerset support with buyers both in the ring and online creating the following creditable averages.
