5 exceed £2600 for the Second Month Running at August Collective Sale

Trade didn’t diminish at the August Collective Sale despite a smaller entry forward 5 lots exceeded £2600 once again this month, with a further 8 over £2500 and 86% of the collective fresh milk selling for over £2000.
Unsurprisingly milk was once again the strongest trade of the day topping at £2730 x 2 for the continued dispersal of the Otterwyn herd on behalf of RG Bowditch Ltd with Otterwyn Shield Molly, a fresh second calver and Rea & Son with Clenchers System Whiteheather GP83, SP, another fresh second calver who gave over 12,000kg in her first lactation.
Calved heifers topped at £2572.50 for Beaconhill Fitz Linda 2 on behalf of MKJ Reed & Son, followed by £2520 x 3 for Haydon Farm Partnership with Haydon Applejax Nancy and RG Bowditch Ltd for Otterwyn Pepper Cindy and Otterwyn Chilldor Softee.
Others over £2500 included RA & SA Reed, RK & SG Miller & Sons and FH Chave & Son.
Ayrshire Calved Heifers sold to £1890 for a July calved heifer sired by Hawaiian on behalf of Grace Bowditch.
A smaller entry of incalf heifers this month topped at £2047.50 and £1995 for heifers due to Aberdeen Angus in the autumn from the continued dispersal for PD & JL Biss. Followed by £1942.50 for a heifer due to Fleckvieh in September on behalf of the PH & DA Winter.
Bulling heifers sold to £1050 x 3 for Allerways Hatchet Lupin 165, Allerways Rager Janet 104 and Allerways Hatchet Vaakje 6 for RA & SA Reed.
RA & SA Reed also topped the yearling section at £1050 with Allerways Chief Susan 73, followed by £966 x 2 for a Norwegian Red X organic heifer and a Holstein Friesian organic heifers for the AH Warren Trust.
Calves sold to £336 x 2 for AH Warren Trust for organic March born heifers.
The August Collective Sale also included the sale of 40 May-July calving cows and heifers for DC Bartlett from Tiverton. The 7,500kg herd managed on a very simple system topped at £2467.50 for Foveran Rubicon Marbella, a third calver giving 34kgs daily. Others sold to £2184 for Tomson Razzy Cognac 44 and £2047.50 x 2 for a third calver having calved in June and a July calved heifer.
A day with over 25 volume buyers spanning the breadth of the entire South West of England and Wales created the following excellent averages:
