
1/3 cows sell for in excess of £2000 at Day 1 of the 700 Head East Close Dispersal

East Close Farm (Sale 1) Dispersal Sale
Following an exceptionally busy Saturday Market the team at Sedgemoor turned the penning around to take in the 350 Dairy Cows, Heifers & Calves for the first of two dispersals for the commercial 11,000kgs East Close Farms Herd – removed from Christchurch Dorset for convenience of sale.
The first cow in the ring sold for £2572.50 for a March calved 2nd lactation cow by Bryceholme SS Boastful, the trade for fresh milk was fierce and continued throughout the day with cows topping at £2835 for Lot 230 a Pride Mogul Tampa Cri daughter that had calved in November to her 3rd lactation giving 62.4kgs and served again for November.
At £2782.50 was a 3rd lactation fresh calver and 4 x 2nd and 3rd lactation autumn calvers , no less than 104 cows and heifers sold for over £2000 with 34 in excess of £2500 on a day when trade exceed expectations following the recent milk price reductions.
Daughters of Seagull-Bay Sr Stardust topped the calved heifers at £2520, mainly calving at under two years of age the heifers averaged over £2000.
On milk calves followed their dams through the ring selling to £546 for the super red and white calf sired by SHG Rainstorm Red.
A number of volume buyers both in the ring and on MartEye saw cattle travelling to new homes in Cornwall, Wales, the Midlands and numerous counties in between.
