Sedgemoor Christmas Cracker Show & Sale

December 2025

The Annual Christmas Cracker Show & Sale concluded an exceptional year of collective monthly dairy sales producing record numbers and prices at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.  The last sale of the year included a show and attracted quality entries to include over 100 freshly calved cows and heifers alongside dispersal consignments and youngstock. Against the backdrop of increasing doom and gloom surrounding the industry and falling milk price, quality and strength were still in demand on the expected easier trade.  A highlight was the youngstock trade which bucked the trend seeing an increased demand!

Our Champion, Combwich Mellencamp Peggy 2nd, a second lactation cow from Fine Farm achieved the day’s top price of 3200gns (£3360) being bought by our judges Harold Lukins and Adrian Burland. Our judges also took the Resereve Champion which was the 1st Prize Heifer Tyrywen Totem Bluebell at 3000gns (£3150) from KR & KM Powell who had an excellent show of fresh and incalf cows from their Tyrywen Herd from Caerphilly.

Other Heifers achieved 2800gns (£2940) for a non pedigree heifer from AT & VJ Powell, Moorshard Letsgo Shower Sold to 2650gns (£2782.5) and another non pedigree cow from Laker Farm Partnership to 2650gns (£2782.5)  Other cows achieved 2650gns (£2782.5) for the 3rd calver from TI & RJ Grandfield and 2500gns (£2625) for Mendip System Christine.

The Friesian Dispersal for Withyend topped at 1650gns for a third calver with a complete clearance of all forward to fellow Friesian enthusiasts.

Incalf Heifers topped at 1820gns (£1911) for Beaconhill Cadilac Jackie 2, with the bulling and younger heifers producing more demand than any other sector on the day topping at 1320gns (£1386) for bullers from P Tilbee, younger maiden heifers from DC&B E Willcox achieved 1240gns (1302) x3 with pedigree 12 months old heifers from the Cedcott herd selling to 1200gns (£1260).

The day started with a superbly bred 5-month-old calf from Holben Holsteins, Grand dam being Butz-Butler Gold Barbara Ex96 she sold for 1500gns (£1575).
