“Clenchers” top at Sedgemoor’s Monthly Sale

Quality Fresh Milk still in great demand to top at 3300gns (£3465) with second quality starting to feel the seasonal selectiveness. Unseasonally the trade of the day was for the youngstock with calves to 820gns

Always at the top end of the monthly sales at Sedgemoor Sarah Davies and her families Clenchers herd hit the top price of the day for the fresh second calver, ‘Renault Bounty’ at 3300gns. The same herd, milked through robots, took the top honours with the heifers as well at 3250 gns (£3412.5) with ‘Lambda Whiteheather’, completing their consignment of three was a red heifer at 3000gns (£3100).

Kev Rickard achieved 3100gns (£3255) with the heifer Starlet Doral Cleopatra. David & Ian Chave had both cows and heifers exceed 3000gns with Peachay Nashville Pocahontas at 3100gns (£3255) and Wiltor Ranger Cheerful at 3050gns (£3202.50)

Continued Dispersals and incalf cows saw the Haydon herd sell to 2600gns, (£2730) Stapleoak herd sell to 2550gns (£2677.50) and D Murdoch & Sons sell to 2100gns (£2205).

Incalf heifers were back on the month but sold well for the stronger types to 2250gns for Rookhaye Estate and the Otterwyn dispersal topping at 2200gns.

Youngstock saw the biggest fire in the trade with Rookhaye selling yearlings by Raiton to 1250gns and Holistoc daughters to 1200gns and their calves selling to 820gns x2. Young heifer calves from Tungrove to 650gns x2.

A day when quality definitely counted saw buyers both in the ring and online to include a strong contingents from Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and representatives from Wiltshire and Gloucestershire produce the following averages:
