37 Commercial Cows sell for over £2000 at Dorset on Farm Dispersal
Back on a Dorset farm for the second time in two months this summer, auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an excellent trade for the dispersal of Tim & Dawn Miller & family’s commercial dairy herd at Crib House Farm Stalbridge.
Despite many farmers busy chasing the weather and the continued frustrations around the falling milk price the quality of cattle on offer at Crib House Farm produced a consistently good trade throughout the catalogue topping at £2,415 x 2.
A July calved second lactation daughter of Alfred giving 40kgs topped the cows at £2,415, followed by a fresh 40kgs second calver and a fresh lactation third calver by Panda both at £2,362.50. Also at £2,415 was the fresh calved heifer by Lakemead Jingle, close behind at £2,362.50 was the July calved heifer giving 28kgs by Evermore.
Incalf heifers due to the Aberdeen Angus sold to £1,785 for another Lakemead Jingle daughter due this autumn, other autumn calving heifers to £1,596 & £1,575 x3. Eleven month old heifers by Peartree Bryster & Kirby Malvern to £640.50 x 3 with others to £609 x 5. Four week old heifer calves following their dams sold to £336 for daughters of Denvo Cabo and £325.50 x 2 Denvo Maccles.
The day included surplus farm machinery with the Cat 407 Telehandler selling for £17,000 and 1995 Ford 8240 Tractor at £9,500.
The sale on farm in Dorset drew volume buyers from Devon & Cornwall which combined with local and Marteye support from Wales and other counties produced the following pleasing averages: -
Cows ‘inc A Lots’ £1,770.00
Calved Heifers £1,915.00
Incalf Heifers £1,316.00
Yearling & Younger Heifers £568.00
‘A’ Lot Heifer Calves £189.00
