Bumper Crowd at Athelney Farm

Auctioneer’s Greenslade Taylor Hunt were delighted to be staging their second on-farm sale of cattle and machinery in as many weeks, with the sale for Tim Morgan featuring his herd of Ruby-Red Devon Cattle as well as an extensive run of antique farm machinery, farming bygones and modern implements.

The sale commenced with the dispersal of the ‘Athelney’ herd of horned Ruby-Red Devon Cattle, the herd was established in 2014 and included a large amount of Poleshill and Curriton bloodlines. The top price of the day was achieved by the 8 year old stock bull DONHEAD HALL DEFENDER (M16062) who sold for 3200gns to found a new herd in Devon. 

Buyers from Wales and Cornwall made the most of the opportunity to secure females from this herd with Curriton Daisy born 2018 selling with her April born heifer calf at foot for 1300gns, Athelney Katy 14th the served heifer selling for 1150gns and yearling heifers Athelney Daisy 2nd 820gns.  Steers were in demand selling to 1270gns and 1200gns x 2 for 2021 born and yearlings to 680gns.

Leading the way in the machinery lines was the Schaffer 460T Telehandler which sold to £18,400 to an online buyer from Scotland. Other modern machinery sold to £3,500 for the SIP Spider 555 4 Star Tedder and £2,200 for the SIP Star 350/8 Single Rotor Rake.

A real feature of the sale was an abundance of antique machinery, farming bygones and agricultural collectibles. The Nuffield 3/45 Tractor sold well, achieving £3,000 to a local collector. The Jones ‘Minor’MK2 Conventional Baler sold for £900, stacks of Metal Estate Fencing achieved £760 and the Dening & Co Drawbar Conversion Tedder realised £250.
