Fresh Milk Averages over £2000 at SAC Collective Sale

May 2023

The recent wet weather did not dampen the Annual May Collective Sale trade with fresh milk averaging over £2,000 across the board.  Top of the day went to DC Dennis & Sons Ltd for their ‘Dreamy’ calved heifer, Dinnaton Kingpin Dalliance Dreamer, selling for £2467.50.  Close behind at £2310 was FH Chave & Son’s Peacehay Doorman Fresca out of Oakroyal Cosmo Fresca 31st (Ex94-5E, LP80, SP) and Rea & Son with Clenchers Jones Whiteheather at £2226.   Rea & Son also topped the cows with the 50kg red second calver, Clenchers Solito Vanessa Red at £2415.

For the third month in a row over 100 incalf heifers were catalogued.  Once again strength and close to calving heifers were in strongest demand with Tomson Mambo Jessica 43rd, a June calver at £1890 topping the day for M Hooper & Sons continued dispersal the same vendor had a further 3 at £1785 with JF Cobb & Sons also at £1785 for a July calving heifer.  Others to £1732.50 x 3 for Hawkins Farm Partners continued dispersal of their Tarischka herd, M Hooper & Sons & JF Cobb & Sons x 3.  M Hooper & Sons averaged an impressive £1724.

The trade for maiden heifers arguably could have been affected by the delayed turn out for many with bullers selling to £840 for Pennymoor Donte Collen from the DG Waterman Partnership and February born 2022 heifers from PT & JC Hinds at £756 for Grosvenor Santos Pizazz 3rd.

Conversely a stronger trade than last month was experienced for heifer calves with a consignment of 41 from JF Cobb & Sons averaging £414 to a top of £500 x 2 for two red & white calves by Denovo Saxon Red.

The convenient location of Sedgemoor Auction Centre attracted successful purchasers from Wales to Cornwall with buyers both in the ring and online creating the following averages.
