Lady Day Dairy Collective Sale

March 2024

The March Collective Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre produced the trade of the year so far with 50 selling for in excess of £2000! Reflecting the superb quality entry forward especially in the fresh milk and incalf heifer section.
The penultimate final dispersal sale of the “Dinnaton” Herd was included in this sale.  A momentous occasion for both the family and GTH who have enjoyed an association for over 40 years to include dispersing the milking proportion of the herd in 2021 and thereafter calved heifers through nearly every monthly collective sale.  Fittingly they topped the sale at £3885 with Dinnaton Shottle Lambda Cordelia, an incalf heifer from the prolific Ex94 Shottle, backed by an impressive 14 generations of VG and Ex she was due to Holstein (sexed) in July.  She was followed by Dinnaton Lambda Dreambig Flute, a February calved heifer selling for £2887.50 and Dinnaton Mogul Dreambig Cordelia, an incalf heifer again from the much sought after Cordelia family due to Holstein (sexed) in June she sold for £2572.50. Dinnaton Detective Dreambig Bluebell 2nd, a February calved heifer from the esteemed Bluebell family, was not far behind, selling for £2415. All 47 head sold averaged an impressive £2107 across the board.
Peacehay had 2 calved heifers selling for £2415 being Peacehay Doc Lila Z 8th from the famous million dollar Lila Z and Peacehay Tropic Rosie 67th. Clevian Have It All Tammy from AJ Limond also sold to £2415. 
Cows also sold to £2415 for another dispersal this time the organic herd of EW, SJ & TW Scolding with Varley Useful Cherry 152nd GP81, a third calver giving over 46kgs daily. She was followed by two second calvers, Varley Goodwhone Domino 477th also from EW, SJ & TW Scolding and Whinchat Atwood Star 6th VG86 from JC Palmer (Sherdon) both selling for £2205.  
Jersey cows sold to £1050 for S Shergold being a second calver back in calf to Simmental for August. 
Incalf heifers were the trade of the day with Dinnaton topping the section with their Cordelia’s and others to £2572.50 x 2.  Another dispersal for the Murrell herd produced incalf heifers to £1995.
The maiden heifer section topped at £861, the top spot was shared by MJ & JE Wade with Loford Crushabull Lila Z, EB Holloway & Son with Chiselborough Dynamite Quince and Chiselborough Dynamite Cherry and Lyegrove Santos Rose (non-pedigree) from R P Sainsbury & Sons Ltd. 
Calves sold to £1050 for MJ & JE Wade’s Loford Addison Rhonda, going back to the legendary Glenridge Citation Roxy Ex97. Followed by £651 x 3 for Loford Ryder Rolls, Loford Showtime Rolls and Loford Ryder Dreamday. 
A day which combined strong local support together with purchasers from Gloucestershire, Carmarthen and Cornwall both in the sale ring and online produced the following impressive averages:
